Jay Smith

Position: Chair

Jay Smith currently works as Coconino County’s Forest Restoration Director and has worked in the forest industry since graduating with a Bachelor of Science from Northern Arizona University in 1993. Jay and his wife and their two dogs live in Kachina Village.

In his role with Coconino County’s Flood Control District, Jay helps lead the County’s Forest Restoration Initiative. His work focuses on speeding up forest restoration projects on National Forest land in Arizona.

Jay has hands-on experience running logging operations and sawmills, which helps him understand the challenges that can slow this work down. He uses that knowledge to find practical ways to solve problems.

He also works closely with forest industry partners and others to reduce the risk of severe wildfires and flooding after fires, especially in steep areas across the county.

Director Jay Smith has served on the Board since June 28, 2021.
